My Technology Growth Log
A record of my growth in the use of technology
I think it's useful to be aware of and be able to look back on how I use technology, as a "metric" on a specific area of self improvement. It's by no means complete, but I'll probably update it at least some, if not continuously. Right now, (2005.03.06) it's just got whatever occurred to me in the 5 minutes it took me to write this initial post.
November 2006
- Created a Category Feed template for my blog, and added a feed for each category (automatically done by Movable Type, since I added it to my set of archive templates).
- Learned more about the ATOM syndication format & created my first "hand-crafted" ATOM feed.
October 2006
- Borrowed from an example and hacked together my own Google Personalized Homepage Grazr gadget, with customizations I wanted. Generally learned about creating Google gadgets.
June/July 2006
- Published my first screencast.
- Revisited screencasting & played with Wink more.
April/May 2006
- Really started thinking about live outlining, and creating various kinds of live outlines.
- Added a Grazr panel to my blog sidebar.
- Added outline browsers to my Google & Live.com home page.
- Really started using my Google personalized home page (Can't we please just call it "My Google"?) as my "startpage/control panel/dashboard".
March 2006
- Started playing with OPML and "live outlining".
- Discovered & learned about Grazr, Optimal, & Bitty.
- Started using FeedBurner to customize & manage feeds.
- Started actually using feedmixes.
February 2006
- Migrated blog to my own domain & started using Movable Type hosted with Yahoo Web Hosting.
December 2005
- Switched from Furl to del.icio.us for saving & sharing links - more on why later.
May 2005
- 2005.05.20 - Started using Furl to clip, save, & share web content. This means I can create individualized & topic-specific feeds!
- Started using a "thought pad" to record ideas in draft form.
April 2005
- 2005.04.01 - Started tagging my own information.
March 2005
- 2005.03.24 - Watched my first screencast (recording of the activity on someone's compter screen, sometimes with narration), Using Technorati and Tags 101, which is a good supplement to this introduction to Technorati tags.
